Vegetarian Food Barcelona
Friday, 23 July 2010 11:10
Barcelona is a very international and cosmopolitan city and therefore also offers lots of choice to visitors that don’t eat meat. However, vegetarianism is not that common in Spain yet as it is in other parts of the world such as the UK or the US. Therefore, even though theory says that there are vegetarian restaurants in the city it is still a little bit difficult to find them. Also, sometimes dishes that appear to be vegetarian are really not as animal products have been used for the preparation of the meal such as meat or fish stock. So better ask the waiter when you order if the dish is completely fish/meat free just to be sure. Additionally, a vegetarian in Spain should be aware that often jamón or ham is not considered meat in this country and therefore might be presented to a diner that orders food without meat.
Nonetheless, in the last couple of years there has been quite some progress and therefore, the number of vegetarian friendly establishments has increased.
