When visit Barcelona or any other city of Spain, onoe thing that is a definite must is to eat some of the traditional "Tapas". The Tapas originate from Andalusia, the southern part of Spain and has been exported to other cities and parts of the country during the years.
What is Tapas then? it can be describes as small dishes of different type of food. When having tapas you usually say that you are"Doing tapas", which is the most common expression used, where is Spanish you say "pica pica". There are many different types of tapas you can choose from, according to your own taste and like. The main purpose of tapas has become
to socialize with other people. Usually you are a group of people and order several different tapas and eat from it all, all together. Further, tapas helps to overcome the, often very long hours, between lunch and dinner, since here in Spain, people usually have dinner quite late at night (between 9-11 pm).
Some of the most common tapas you can find on almost every menu are for example patatas bravas (deep fried potato chunks with spicy sauce),croquetas (small rolls made usually from shredded chicken or ham, mixed with bechamel sauce), jamòn (cured ham), gambas al ajillo (grilled shrimp with garliv and olive oil) and many many more...
