Sangria

When thinking about food and Spain together, things such as Paella and Tapas come in mind.
For sure this country has a lot to offer and by tasting the different traditional dishes
of Spain you get a culinary experience like no other. Spain also has a rich culture when
coming to drinks, one of the most known is Sangria.

The Sangria dates back to the 19th century where the drink was serves at gatherings and
banquets for the aristrocrats. It became known worldwide in the 1960s as a fruit punch
and can now be found everywhere. The Sangria is usually a drink for the summer, but you
can find it during the whole summer at the restaurants and bars.


Sangria is made traditionally from red wine with a variety of fruit and ice. You mix the
ingredients togethet first, without the ice, then you refrigerate if for some hours,
between 6-12 hours is the ideal time. This lets the ingredients to be mixed together and the
flavors now being exceptionally blended, you add the ice cubes and it is now ready to be
served. Although the base of Sangria is red wine, some variations of the drink can be
found containing white wine (then called Sangria Blanca).
