Paella

Paella
One word that comes in mind when thinking of Spain is Paella. Most people all around the world consider Paella as a Spanish traditional dish. The paella originates from Valencia, and it is mostly the Valencians who consider it to be a national dish and something to be consider as a symbol of the area, for the rest of the Spanish people the paella is one dish of many.

 

 

The paella is now served worldwide with many different kinds of recipes and a great
variety of ingredients. Tradtionally, there are three different types;
 
- Paella Valenciana - the original Valencian paella containing rabbit, chicken, and
vegetables such as red pepper and artichoke

- Paella marisco - seafood paella with ingredients such as shrimps, clams and calamari and
vegetables

- Paella mixta - paella with a mix of meat (beef or chicken) and seafood together with
vegetables

Traditionally the paella is cooked by men pver an open fire. It is a special pan used to
cook it, called paellera, which come in different sizes depending on for how many persons
you are cooking for, there are paellera for 1 up to 100 persons.

In 1992 the paella cooking took one step further. A chef from Valencia
ended up in the Guinness world record by making paella for more than 100 000 people.
