Learning Spanish in Barcelona

If you want to learn Spanish Barcelona -even though it is the the capital of Catalonia with its own Catalan language-  is a wonderful place to do so as it offers many fantastic opportunities. There are dozens of qualified language schools in the city that offer internationally certified quality teaching and of course everybody in Barcelona speaks Spanish as well even though Catalan is the official language.
However, the offer of different courses in Barcelona might be overwhelming at first, so what should you look for in a language school?

First of all, it is important that the classes are not too large and a maximum of 10 people should be guaranteed by to school to ensure that you get enough attention from the teacher.

Also, the location is important. Do you want to be close to the beach or in the center of the city? Look at the map to find out where the various schools are situated and then decide which ones suit your preferences best.

Of course, the price point is also quite essential. Many but not all schools offer discounts for an early booking and reduce their prices the longer you stay gradually. Also look for hidden costs for books or inscription fees. Comparing is the only way to find out.

What level of Spanish do you speak already? That question might be difficult to answer but all schools usually offer language tests prior to your course that will identify what level suits you best. If the school doesn't offer your level you need to find an alternative. Most schools offer courses up to a high intermediate level and if you feel you are advanced double check with the school if they have a course for you.

The timetable is also important. What time do classes start and how long are they? 45, 50 or 55 min? This should also be considered when comparing prices. Also, can you choose between morning or afternoon classes?

Additionally, are there any extra activities organized by the school such as night-outs, bar crawls, etc. and are Internet and library facilities provided in the school?

Finally, if you are a tourist in Barcelona you need to find accommodation. Does the school offer apartments or host families and what are the prices for that.

If you consider all of these points you should be able to find the perfect school for you and there should be nothing stopping you from having a fun and educational experience in the city of Barcelona.
