Anella Olimpíca

For the summer olympics in 1992 here in Barcelona, major renovation took place
in the Montjuic hill in order to transform it from a regular place into a decent Olympic arena.

The Anella Olimpíca (Olympic ring) was built. The complex includes the Palau Sant Jordi,
designed especially for the handball and volleball competitions, the Picornell swimming
pools and the Santiago Calatrava´s Communications Tower. Further the Lluís Companys Stadium,
which was built around the 1930s was fully renovated for the Olympic games. The Palau
Sant Jordi is now often used as a concert hall.

The Anella Olimpíca and in particular the Lluís Companys stadium, is now one of
Barcelona´s main sites which attracts thousands of tourists each year. The area is
also used for different exhibitions and other events of the Barcelona city.
