Vegetarian Food Barcelona

Friday, 23 July 2010 11:10

Vegetarian foodBarcelona is a very international and cosmopolitan city and therefore also offers lots of choice to visitors that don’t eat meat. However, vegetarianism is not that common in Spain yet as it is in other parts of the world such as the UK or the US. Therefore, even though theory says that there are vegetarian restaurants in the city it is still a little bit difficult to find them. Also, sometimes dishes that appear to be vegetarian are really not as animal products have been used for the preparation of the meal such as meat or fish stock. So better ask the waiter when you order if the dish is completely fish/meat free just to be sure. Additionally, a vegetarian in Spain should be aware that often jamón or ham is not considered meat in this country and therefore might be presented to a diner that orders food without meat.
Nonetheless, in the last couple of years there has been quite some progress and therefore, the number of vegetarian friendly establishments has increased.

Tibidabo

Wednesday, 21 July 2010 10:15

TibidaboThe Tibidabo is a mountain of 512 m –the highest in Serra de Collserola- that overlooks Barcelona and offers spectacular views over the city and the ocean. It also houses a theme park that has been founded in 1899 being the first of its type in Spain and this makes it also one of the oldest amusement parks in Europe.
It offers a very familiar atmosphere and is perfect for parents with children. If you are interested in looking for adrenalin kicks it is not the right place to go though.
There is also a church on the Tibidabo - Templo Expiatorio del Sagrado Corazón- that is a fantastic building to visit for its architecture and design are astonishing and it took almost 60 years to finish it, from 1902 until 1961. It was started by the modernist architect Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia and was later finished by his son Josep Maria Sagnier i Vidal. The building impresses through the amount of detail that has been created by the constructors and it definitely takes some time to visit and discover the church.
